Shine a flashlight through these seven wooden constellation tokens and the stars appear on the wall or ceiling. Every star is cut clean through a 2.75 inch disc of premium Baltic birch, so a small flashlight or a phone light held behind a token in a dark room puts Orion, the Big Dipper, the Little Dipper, Cassiopeia, Andromeda, Canis Major, or Cygnus up overhead. A 12-page sky guide comes with the set and tells you when and where to find each constellation outside, so the stars on the ceiling can be matched to the real sky.

Each token is laser-engraved with the constellation's name and line figure, and the brighter stars are cut as larger holes, so the projected pattern shows which stars stand out in the night sky.

The guide covers star shows and games to play in the dark, then gives the months each constellation is up in the evening and which way to face, and it works anywhere in North America. Add a first name and a town or ZIP code at checkout and we will personalize it with the child's name and optimum viewing conditions for that town, at no extra charge.

Open-ended by design. Project one constellation and ask which token made it, hold a token up beside the real stars until the two line up, or tell the story behind a name at bedtime: Orion the hunter, Cassiopeia the queen, and Andromeda her daughter. The winter solstice on December 21 is the longest night of the year and a good night to try it outside.
