These winter counting tokens come in four designs: Christmas trees and penguins cut from solid cherry, and polar bears and snowflakes cut from solid maple. Choose a set of 20 or 40 tokens in one design, two designs, or all four, for a sensory bin filler, a counting set, or a stocking stuffer.

Each set is split evenly between the designs you choose, so a two-design set of 20 has 10 of each and an all-four set of 20 has 5 of each. Everything in one order ships together, and each set comes in its own muslin bag.

The two woods give the set its color. Pair a cherry design with a maple one and the darker cherry and pale maple are easy to tell apart, so a child can sort by wood before sorting by shape, build a set of ten two different ways, or compare two groups side by side, all without any paint or dye on the pieces.

Each token is laser-cut from 3/16 inch solid hardwood, laser-engraved with its design, and finished by hand with food-safe beeswax and jojoba oil. At about 2 inches tall, they are easy for small hands to pick up.

Open-ended by design. Bury them in a winter sensory bin of colored rice to dig out and count (rice not included), line them up into patterns like tree, snowflake, tree, snowflake, or use them with a ten frame or whatever math curriculum you already use. The penguins, polar bears, and snowflakes stay in season through February, long after the trees go back in the bag.
