OVERVIEW

Emotions Check-In Mat

Kids with ADHD often can't recognize or name their emotions. They just know something feels "wrong." This printable mat gives them a visual, color-coded system to identify what they're feeling and what to do about it.

What You Get: High-res printable mat (11×14" or 8.5×11") 8 emotion cards with faces, body signals, and regulation moves Color-coded zones (Green/Yellow/Red for emotional intensity) Comprehensive Tips & Printing Guide Ready to use in 30 minutes

The Eight Emotions (Color-Coded):

GREEN ZONE (Calm): READY: "I feel alert and prepared" HAPPY: "I feel good right now"

YELLOW ZONE (Building): WIGGLY: "I have too much energy" FRUSTRATED: "Things aren't going my way" NERVOUS: "I'm worried about something"

RED ZONE (Big Feelings): ANGRY: "I feel really upset" SAD: "I feel down or hurt" SCARED: "I feel afraid or worried"

How It Works:

Each emotion card shows three things: Emotion face: What does this feeling look like? Body signals: "My body feels..." (tight chest, shaky hands, hot face, etc.) One quick regulation move: What helps calm this feeling? (breathing, movement, fidgeting, etc.)

Why This Matters: Kids with ADHD have a harder time recognizing their own emotional signals. By naming the feeling AND identifying the body sensation, they develop interoception (body awareness) and emotional literacy at the same time.

The best part? They learn they can DO something about their feelings instead of just being swept away by them.

Perfect for: ADHD kids who get dysregulated quickly Kids who melt down without warning Parents who want to teach emotion management Teachers/tutors working with emotional dysregulation Anywhere transitions, frustration, or big feelings happen

Timeline: Week 1: They'll point to emotions, start recognizing feelings Week 2–3: They'll use the regulation moves independently Week 4+: They start naming feelings before exploding ("I'm getting frustrated, I need...")
